| The
Magra valley, with its
fascinating medieval villages, its castles,
the marvellous naturalistic itinerarys in
the natural park of Montemarcello
Magra, its beaches, its seaside
resorts of Marinella and
Fiumaretta, the archaeological
sites and the beautiful hills covered by
the sun, offers a range of possibilities
for any tape of tourism of any age.
Sarzana,
the most elegant and exclusive city of the
area that has maintained almost intact its
characteristics of walled city of 16th century,
is an interesting destination for those
who would like cultural tourism and visit
not only its museums, the theatre, its elegant
buildings, the porticoeds, the beautiful
churches, its walls, its characteristic
streets and squares, but also its inimitable
antiquarian shops and its cafes, where you
can breathe air of wordliness.
On the hills around Sarzana
stand out small villages of high historical
and cultural interest of incomparable natural
beauty.

Castelnuovo Magra, for
example, a village of 12th century, located
on a hill from where it overlooks the
Magra Valley, with a
palace and a tower ordered to be built
by the bishop Enrico di Fucecchio,
Its district stretches downhill on splendid
verdant territory, further increased by
the proximetly of the seaside.
Ortonovo and Nicola:
both historical villages of the 13th and
14th century, set in a dominant position,
on a hill at the foot of the Apuane Alps,
that stretches on a green level territory
that confines with the seaside tract of
Marinella;
Fosdinovo, located on
a hill and surrounded by woods and rich
vegetation, raises on the village below
of Caniparola, a large plain from wich
you can reach the beach and the sea of
Marinella in a few minutes.

On the opposite side of
the river Magra we find another range of
antique and interesting small villages.
Ameglia: midioeval and
extremely old (10th century) and practecly
remained intact, who’s district stretches
downhill towards Bocca di Magra,
characteristic resort and famous tourist
centre, also includes Punta Corvo
and Montemarcello, places
environmental aspects and landscapes of
rare beauty.
Arcola
with the fortress in architecture of the
19th century who’s district includes
Romito Magra, village that
is a crossroad between Lerici
Sarzana and Bocca
di Magra from wich it is a few
Km distant. Trebiano, antique
village located in a beautiful viewing spot,
built around the castle of which you can
still sea its ruins.
Lerici,
that overlooks the extremely famous Gulf
of the Poets, offers an enchanting,
landscape and climate particularly mild
and temperate all year long. The district
includes the villages of
San Terenzo, Tellaro
and Fiascherino, they too
characteristic places of rare beauty immerged
between the Sea, beaches, rich and thick
Mediterranean vegetation.
Portovenere
located at the westend of the Gulf
of Poets, is characterized by a
picturesque village that keeps the charm
of the maritime villages with the colourful
houses that overlook the sea; its also rich
of monuments where the suggestive church
of San Pietro lies on a peak over the sea
on a natural promontory. |

S.Stefano located at
north west of Sarzana
has a beautiful castle completely restored.
Its district rises on the road to Aulla
where the valley begins to narrow beyond
the mountains that divides Lunigiana
from Garfagnana.
On the mountainous side of Lunigiana
antique and interesting centres like the
city of Aulla built in
the 9th century, it has always occupied
a fundamental position in the area as
a centre of connection between Toscana,
Liguria and Emilia Romagna. The city is
set in a landscape of rich vegetation
and its district comprises numerous villages
which offer very interesting monuments
.
Further inland there is Pontremoli,
centre of the high Lunigiana
that has always been considered as a door
on the appenines and the only way to reach
Parma, and it is dominated from above
by the castle of Pignaro
where is the famous museum of the Stele
statues.
